Media, Player and Platform Improvements

Jun 26, 2026

We have released several improvements to SeeSignage’s media processing, player applications, and technical platform. This update improves 4K video handling, support for new digital signage devices, display reliability, scheduling accuracy, and content playback across different environments.

H.265 Support for 4K Videos

SeeSignage now uses H.265 video compression for 4K videos in addition to the previously used H.264 format. H.265 enables high-quality videos to be compressed more efficiently, significantly reducing the amount of storage space required on display devices.

In practice, this means that more high-quality 4K videos can now be stored on devices without filling up storage as quickly. Support has also been added for faster 4K video processing through hardware acceleration.

Media Processing Improvements

Several improvements have been made to media management, previews, and background processing. These updates make handling content smoother and more reliable.

Player, Scheduling and Device Support Improvements

Several improvements have been made to the player applications and screen scheduling. These updates improve content playback, compatibility with new digital signage devices, and the reliability of display devices.

Improvements include:

  • Better compatibility with new digital signage devices
  • RSS feed caching in memory and local storage, including support for configurable refresh intervals
  • Support for hidden widgets and objects during content playback
  • Fixes to player widget and preview positioning
  • Improvements to how text, widgets, and RSS feeds are displayed
  • Fix for an issue where the screen could continue playback in standby mode on certain new devices
  • Fixes to default media video playback when synchronized playback is enabled

Platform and Reliability Improvements

The rendering and player technology behind SeeSignage has been extensively updated. This update makes content handling more consistent between the management UI, player, and backend services, while also creating a more stable foundation for future editor and player features.

For users, this means better compatibility, more reliable content playback, and a smoother experience across different display environments.

In addition, change detection and UI behavior have been improved across several views.

Improvements include:

  • Automatic refresh of playlists, channels, content, campaigns, screens, and media when changes are made elsewhere
  • The channel side panel now closes if another user deletes the channel currently being viewed
  • The content editor now detects when another user deletes the content currently open
  • The campaign view now detects when another user deletes the campaign currently open
  • Notifications have been moved to the bottom-right corner
  • Mobile tab layouts have been improved
  • Login-related issues have been fixed
  • Server-side content processing has been improved
  • Package and dependency updates have been applied across several services

These changes improve the overall reliability of SeeSignage and help ensure that media, players, device support, and backend services work more consistently across different use cases.
